Big Brothers Big Sisters operates from Bamford House, a welcoming and safe space where mentoring matches can meet, intake meetings are conducted, and ongoing support is provided. The facility is also available throughout the year for mentoring activities and community engagement.

Position Summary
The Volunteer & Family Engagement Coordinator supports the recruitment, enrollment, engagement, and ongoing support of volunteers and families participating in Big Brothers Big Sisters programs. This position is responsible for ensuring volunteers and families feel supported throughout their mentoring journey while helping create safe, meaningful, and successful mentoring relationships.
This is a temporary part-time term position with an anticipated end date of December 31, 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment and Engagement
- Develop and implement strategies to recruit and engage volunteers within the community.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with volunteers throughout their involvement with the organization.
- Coordinate volunteer recognition and appreciation initiatives.
- Promote Big Brothers Big Sisters programs through community outreach, events, presentations, and social media.
Volunteer Enrollment
- Guide prospective volunteers through the enrollment process, including applications, interviews, reference checks, and screening procedures.
- Complete volunteer assessments in accordance with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada’s National Child Safety Standards.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records.
Family Enrollment and Support
- Support families through the enrollment process, including intake meetings and collection of required information.
- Build trusting relationships with families and provide ongoing communication and support.
- Ensure families understand program expectations, benefits, and available supports.
Match Support
- Provide ongoing support to mentoring matches to encourage safe, healthy, and meaningful relationships.
- Monitor match progress through regular contact with volunteers, children, youth, and families.
- Identify challenges and provide appropriate guidance, resources, and support.
- Maintain complete and accurate case notes and documentation.
Social Media and Community Engagement
- Assist in creating and sharing engaging social media content highlighting programs, volunteers, and community impact.
- Support marketing initiatives, fundraising campaigns, and community awareness efforts.
- Promote volunteer opportunities and agency events.
Qualifications
In accordance with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada’s National Child Safety Standards, candidates must possess:
- A minimum two-year post-secondary diploma in a related field such as Education, Social Work, Human Services, Child and Youth Care, Family Studies, or a related discipline.
Equivalent education and experience may be considered where permitted under National Standards.

The successful candidate will be an energetic and motivated self-starter who is comfortable working independently and collaboratively. They will possess strong time-management skills, demonstrate sound judgment, manage multiple priorities effectively, and uphold the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, compassion, and respect in all interactions.
Work Environment
The primary work location is a professional office environment; however, responsibilities may include meetings, events, and activities within the community.
The Volunteer & Family Engagement Coordinator must possess a valid driver’s licence and access to reliable transportation. Occasional travel may be required.

Conditions of Employment
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Meet all requirements of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada’s National Child Safety Standards.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding clients, volunteers, families, and organizational information.

Position Type: Part-Time Term Position (0-24 hours per week)
Schedule: Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend requirements.
Location: Lacombe, Alberta
Compensation: $19.00 to $21.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
